I have studied the history of building saxophones from Adolphe Sax instruments to the early 20th century french instruments, the glorious Jazz Age in the USA with companies like Conn, Buescher, King and Martin and their European competitors in the second half of the 20th century such as Selmer, Couesnon, Buffet Crampon and Leblanc/Beaugnier. My favorite modern saxophone builder is YAMAHA and my favorite reeds are organic and produced by DÁddario woodwinds.
